  1. Boulder study sheds light on bicycle, pedestrian accidents - Daily Camera

    Google Cycling News &bull Today

City officials recently completed the Safe Streets Boulder Report, an analysis of data from accidents involving vehicles, bicyclists, pedestrians and skateboarders that paints one of the most comprehensive pictures to date of transportation safety in the city. The report identifies the most dangerous intersections and crosswalks in the city, the most common types of accidents and the behaviors that caused them. The report was formed using information gleaned from accidents within city limits between January 2008 and April 2011. Data from more than 8,500 collisions during that time sheds new light on Boulder's transportation system that city planners, traffic engineers… Full Story »

  2. Will UK politicians ever seek to restrain the motorised majority?

    Quickrelease.tv &bull Yesterday

I signed up to the cycle safe campaign by The Times. There has been some fine reporting on the real and rightly worrying danger posed by motorised traffic but, as today's paper exemplifies, there's a risk of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. There are some good bits in today's newspaper, there are some awful bits in today's newspaper. Which will people most remember? The bad bits. Political parties are said to have welcomed The Times campaign, and Labour is even calling for a Cycling Summit. All well and good but if politicians think cycling is so incredibly dangerous… Full Story »

  5. SRAM Red 2013 hydraulic brakes - First look

    Bikeradar.com &bull Feb 3, 2012

SRAM's new 2013 Red group offers a host of improvements and upgrades. Two particularly interesting developments include the company's first Red-branded power meter, and announcement of a fall launch for hydraulic disc and rim brakes. SRAM showed launch attendees images of the new Red hydraulic rim and disc road brakes, but we weren't allowed to shoot photographs. That being said, we got enough of a look at all of the components to provide a good description of what you'll see when it's all officially announced this autumn. (So unfortunately, this is… Full Story »

  8. Cycling in Singapore: An Uphill Battle? - Wall Street Journal (blog)

    Google Cycling News &bull Feb 3, 2012

Travelers along roads in Singapore see luxury cars, pick-up trucks ferrying foreign workers alfresco between construction sites and dormitories, and containers being hauled to and from some of the world's busiest ports. Solid figures are hard to come by, but anecdotal evidence suggests that cycling doesn't seem to be gaining as much traction in Singapore (or other Southeast Asian metropolises, for that matter) as in other global cities. In this part of the world, the car is king of the road, and bicycle commuting is still in… Full Story »

  17. Top 10 problems with the proposed House transportation bill

    BikeLeague.org Blog &bull Feb 1, 2012

By popular demand, you can now read the top ten list of reasons the proposed House transportation bill, the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, is terrible for bicycling and livable communities. Under current law, traffic calming and bicycle/pedestrian safety are eligible for funding from the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The House's proposed bill would make traffic calming and bike/ped safety ineligible for funding, encouraging faster, more dangerous streets. Current law requires that rumble strips on roads "do no… Full Story »
