Berlin Show
34x18 &bull Yesterday
Berlin is a city torn between two worlds, one in the past and one living today. The two are a vivid contrast to other and often coexist on the same street block. The Berliner Fahrrad Schau was the backdrop for my exposure to this unknown world, seeing first hand how one of the most recognizable cities struggles with its split personalities. Driving into Berlin is… Full Story »

Leave the city
Up in Alaska &bull Mar 8, 2010
Magnolia Electric Co., "Leave the City" I'll never forget my first few moments in Juneau, as I stepped off the ferry into a cold, black, startlingly empty summer night. It was July 2003. I wasn't an Alaska resident yet; I was a tourist, one of four friends spending an entire summer coaxing a sputtering Ford Econoline van around the 49th state. We left the van and our bikes in Haines. The ferry landed just before midnight. No one told us the terminal was 14 miles out of town. We stood in the dark with our overstuffed backpacks, somewhat stupefied by… Full Story »

BSNYC Flying Funquist!
Bike Snob NYC &bull Mar 5, 2010
In these uncertain times, many of us find ourselves searching for meaning. For example, I have chosen to worship a Lobster God (beware of false prophets), to whom I pray for guidance, protection, and discounts. However, sometimes I also need a more worldly cause behind which to rally so I can delude myself into thinking that I'm changing society for the better. Unfortunately, though, this can be hard. A view from other side of the "rogue wall" on 82nd
BikePortland.org &bull Feb 19, 2010
On Wednesday, we brought you news of the first communique from newly formed activist group The Peoples Department of Transportation (PDOT). Their video featured on-the-street interviews and commentary that was critical of a new wall erected by the Oregon Department of Transportation in the middle of NE 82nd street. The wall is in place between NE Jonesmore and Wasco streets where 82nd crosses Interstate 84. The activist group PDOT (not to be confused with the official PBOT with a B) characterized it as a rogue wall that, divides Portland and inconveniences thousands. While we are disappointed that some people didnt… Full Story »
