In between adventures
Up in Alaska &bull Feb 5, 2012
I am, at my core, a lazy person. I often tell people that the reason I aim for big expedition-style races is to establish an iron-clad excuse to pursue hours of adventure training. But sometimes I realize that the opposite is also true - I "train" so I can justify big adventures. Remove the adventure factor - either adventure as training, or training for adventure - and I start to display disconcerting impassivity for the hobbies I claim as passions. I'm beginning to realize that adventure might just be… Full Story »

I had to address an issue last week on a client's bike that had to do with the front derailleur mount on his 2011 Felt F1. I did the frame-up build with Shimano Dura Ace Di2 in the early part of this past summer. This bike was not abused and I'd have to give a gold star to this client… Full Story »

Fat Cyclist &bull Jan 25, 2012
A Note from Fatty: Today, I'm starting work on my next book: Fight Like Susan. It will tell the story of Susan's battle with cancer. From time to time (honestly, I don't know how often I'll be able to pull the energy together for this kind of post) I'll be writing posts that fill in the gaps of the story I've already told - stuff that happened before I started this blog, and stuff that was too difficult to talk about at the… Full Story »

Celebrating In Snow: Part II
Guitar Ted Productions &bull Jan 22, 2012
The one year celebration of the Snow Dog continued Saturday with an invitation from Captain Bob to join him and maybe a few others on a snow ride. Plans were made and the time was set. I went to sleep Friday night as the mercury plunged well below the zero mark. That's zero Fahrenheit, my non-U.S.A. The Capt. and Alan just outside of Denver. Creative running
Up in Alaska &bull Jan 17, 2012
My minor maladies often come in bunches, usually convincing me that they're somehow related. Just about the time the swelling on my elbow finally diminished, I came down with a wretched case of likely food poisoning. I spent a long evening and night clutching the toilet and wondering if I had some kind of horrific wound infection from the superficial cuts on my scar. It is humorous what my mind can conjure up when I'm coping with a downturn in my health. By the fourth purging session, I felt extremely dizzy. I laid down… Full Story »
