Boulder study sheds light on bicycle, pedestrian accidents - Daily Camera
Google Cycling News &bull Today
City officials recently completed the Safe Streets Boulder Report, an analysis of data from accidents involving vehicles, bicyclists, pedestrians and skateboarders that paints one of the most comprehensive pictures to date of transportation safety in the city. The report identifies the most dangerous intersections and crosswalks in the city, the most common types of accidents and the behaviors that caused them. The report was formed using information gleaned from accidents within city limits between January 2008 and April 2011. Data from more than 8,500 collisions during that time sheds new light on Boulder's transportation system that city planners, traffic engineers… Full Story »

Cyclists set for battle in epic round-the-world race
Bikeradar.com &bull Yesterday
Almost four years ago to the day, a Scottish adventurer was on the verge of shattering what was then a little known record - the fastest circumnavigation of the Earth by bicycle. Mark Beaumont's time of 194 days and 17 hours broke the previous benchmark by a whopping 82 days, setting a credible benchmark and dangling a carrot in front of motivated, endurance-hungry cyclists the world over. To be honest, though, the weather is the least crazy thing that's been happening here in Washington this week. We had less than two days to read an 864-page highway bill - the American Infrastructure and Energy Jobs… Full Story »

Cycling in Singapore: An Uphill Battle? - Wall Street Journal (blog)
Google Cycling News &bull Feb 3, 2012
Travelers along roads in Singapore see luxury cars, pick-up trucks ferrying foreign workers alfresco between construction sites and dormitories, and containers being hauled to and from some of the world's busiest ports. Solid figures are hard to come by, but anecdotal evidence suggests that cycling doesn't seem to be gaining as much traction in Singapore (or other Southeast Asian metropolises, for that matter) as in other global cities. In this part of the world, the car is king of the road, and bicycle commuting is still in… Full Story »
